THE EUCHARISTIC STEP-BY-STEP CELEBRATION

THE EUCHARISTIC STEP-BY-STEP CELEBRATION
STRUCTURE AND EXPLANATION OF ITS PARTS
(CHAPTER II)
BY: RD. JOSEP GULTOM

Last week we've talked about opening rites, and at this point we discuss the second part, the Liturgy of the Word.
II. Liturgy of the Word
Liturgy of the Word is made up of two main structures, namely the word of God and the word of God's people respond. Thus, the liturgy of the word contains a dialog that says the encounter between God and the people who responded to the word of God. The proclamation of the word of God held in the reading of scripture and homily that deepen the word of God. Responses people the word of God was revealed through the psalm response, introductory verse of the gospel, and the prayer of the faithful Syahdat
a. First Reading
On Sundays and holidays, we have three readings, the first reading, second reading and the Gospel. For daily Mass, the readings provided only two, namely the first reading and the gospel. First reading on Sunday and feast day is taken from the Old Testament. The first reading has a thematic relationship to the gospel, which shows the continuity of God's salvation history of the Old Testament reaching a peak in Jesus Christ who preached the Gospel.
b. Psalm Response (MT)
Psalm response was a response to the word of God's people who just preached or heard. Psalm response is not just a distraction or accompaniment, but in addition to being an expression of the psalm response response to the Word of God's people, as well as to encourage people to reflect and absorb the word of God.
c. Second Reading
Normally second reading is taken from the new agreement. So the reading is often called Epistle / epistles = new. Second reading proclaim faith in Jesus Christ in the context of actual problems of the early church. In liturgical reading both serve to prepare the people to the feast word, the Bible.
d. Bait Introduction to the Gospel
Bait Introduction to the Gospel is not the same as the psalm response. Psalm response is the response of the faithful upon reading earlier, while the temple introduction gospel just want to prepare people to hear the gospel to welcome the Lord Jesus Christ to be said in the gospel.
e. Gospel reading
Gospel reading is the culmination of the celebration of liturgy of the word. Reading of the gospel of Jesus himself pointed to the reality that remains present in the Church and continues to proclaim his gospel to every creature. Making a cross on the book by readers, revealed that in the cross of Christ preached the gospel. While making a cross on the forehead, mouth and chest revealed a readiness to testify about the word of God with courage without hiding our face, to recognize the gospel with mouth and keep it faithfully in our hearts. But there were interpreting making a cross on it as the third place; "your words O Lord, we think and ponder, we preach and we resapkan in the heart."
f. Homily
Homily proclamation of the word of God is revealed from the Bible and make comments and explanations about the scripture readings. The homily is also meant to bolster the faith and lead them to the mystery of the Word and the sacraments are celebrated. Homily also eventually encourage the faithful to boldly proclaim the good news was sent to the world.
g. Creed or Credo
Credo is a statement of faith of all the faithful. This credo was a response to the people who have heard the word of God through the readings and homily. With people of faith stand up and declare their creed with formulas of faith into the church's faith.
f. Prayer of the Faithful
Prayer of the faithful is not a short devotional, or a short statement of faith, nor is it a news taken from newspapers or magazines, nor is commentary or devotional heart-wrenching. In general, the prayer of the traditional sequence includes four things: prayer for the Church especially church leaders, community leaders and prayer for the salvation of the world, a prayer for the people who are suffering, and prayer for the local congregation (parish, parish, region, environment, etc.) . But in a special celebration of the prayer of the structure and sequence can be adjusted according to the theme and needs.
