Dear Brothers and sisters of Cathedral Parish web browsers:

As usual , and has become a tradition that we live together , past Lent always begins with the reception of ashes. Ash reception ceremony was held on Wednesday, which is also known as Ash Wednesday . Indeed, the liturgy of our Church , could have been started since Tuesday afternoon , because on the afternoon before the ' d- day ' we also have to accept , so Wednesday we also had really started. On Ash Wednesday we accept this legally ash as he started the Lenten period of fasting and repentance at the same time . Therefore, acceptance of ashes in the days after Ash Wednesday is actually less precise . Although the pastoral , not infrequently it is executed due to limited time and energy . But again this is not fitting .
Ash is a symbol of human frailty and our corporality . By accepting the ash , we are reminded of the fragility of us that easily fall into sin . Sin brings us to the death and destruction . The call that was played when we receive the ashes are : Repent and believe the gospel , or remember , that we come from dust and will return to dust .
That statement is an invitation to us to repent . We are aware and understand that our physical bodies will be destroyed and return to dust . But, in our body, there is a living thing that will never die , the spirit or soul . Spirit or soul which make our physical body alive . When the soul is separated from our mortal bodies , he will still live on . Her life will not be ending but continuing to immortality or eternity .
Entering this Lenten period all the people invited to receive ashes in the Eucharist which is only held on Tuesday and Wednesday evening according to the schedule listed below . Beings are welcome to attend one . After Ash Wednesday there will be no admission ash . So let us follow one of the existing opportunities . The following schedule of Eucharist at the Cathedral Church for Ash acceptance :

Sunday 23 February 2014 , God greets Catholics around the world in celebration of the Sunday liturgy by reading the Gospel of Matthew 5:38-48 . This reading is part of Jesus' sermon on the hill . When we read the whole of Matthew 5:38-48 , we get the sense that Jesus establishes a legal ( statutory) in the proclamation of the new kingdom of God to enhance the Old Testament law , namely the law . Here we can contemplate and practice the Christian life . The Gospel reading can change the behavior of our lives .

Therefore , in this reflection , I would like to invite people to reflect on and practice constantly this verse : " and the people who sue you and take your tunic , give your cloak as well . And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two miles ( Matt. 5:40-41 ) .

Pay attention and look at the second paragraph : If anyone wants your shirt , give your cloak . In Palestine in Jesus' time , people use two types of clothing , the first outfit everyday wear , and the outside of the cloak to protect themselves from the cold and rain , even used to warm the body bedtime ( output 22:26-27 ) . The requested are clothes , give more than that , the warm clothes you sleep , protect you whenever it rains and the weather is cold . Means give more than than you requested . Give more than you can than you asked us consider the following verse , " if you are asked to walk one mile, go with him two miles . In Palestine in the time of Jesus , there are government regulations that tell people forced labor or kepekerjaan to contribute to the public interest . So if you put to work that requires travel 1 mile , you do more than that.

Doing more than is asked is always an element of the initiative or proactive attitude from us as much as 100 percent of the reactive attitude ( attitude requested ) . The attitude of our reaction is to give clothes and walk two miles . While the attitude of our initiative ( proactive - extra ) which gives robes and 1 mile longer trip . How isin our daily life , we realize of the teachings of Jesus .

That we do 2 times of what is asked of us . Here are some examples , a teacher working with a student asked to answer 10 questions from the 50 questions . Then you do 20 questions . 10 questions to be examined by teacher , 10 others question the ability to add . An employee , told bosses rake workspace , but he did more than was asked the boss , that he mop and clean the glass . Mopping and cleaning the glass is an initiative and proactive . In the sale of goods , too, sells exceed targeted . Each of us can make a list of what is required of us to be made , do it two times more than requested .

How family life , in the monastery , in school , at work , in government agencies , if people do than what is asked and expected .. Oh how beautiful life is . Fitting the beginning of today 's Gospel about the word happy ( Matthew 5:3-12 ) . Jesus said : " Blessed are those who do exceed requested . " Make this your character , our Catholics character.

Therefore , in choosing the party needs to pay attention to attitude and their struggle in keeping the four agreements . You should carefully follow the counting process of the level of polling stations ( TPS ) to the sub-district and district level in order to avoid engineering and cheating .

Faith and Charity: “We Ought to Lay Down Our Lives for One Another” (1 Jn 3:16)

 Dear Brothers and Sisters,

1. On the occasion of the Twenty-second World Day of the Sick, whose theme this year is Faith and Charity: “We Ought to Lay Down Our Lives for One Another” (1 Jn 3:16), I turn in a special way to the sick and all those who provide them with assistance and care. The Church recognizes in you, the sick, a special presence of the suffering Christ. It is true. At the side of – and indeed within – our suffering, is the suffering of Christ; he bears its burden with us and he reveals its meaning. When the Son of God mounted the cross, he destroyed the solitude of suffering and illuminated its darkness. We thus find ourselves before the mystery of God’s love for us, which gives us hope and courage: hope, because in the plan of God’s love even the night of pain yields to the light of Easter, and courage, which enables us to confront every hardship in his company, in union with him.

2. The incarnate Son of God did not remove illness and suffering from human experience but by taking them upon himself he transformed them and gave them new meaning. New meaning because they no longer have the last word which, instead, is new and abundant life; transformed them, because in union with Christ they need no longer be negative but positive. Jesus is the way, and with his Spirit we can follow him. Just as the Father gave us the Son out of love, and the Son gave himself to us out of the same love, so we too can love others as God has loved us, giving our lives for one another. Faith in God becomes goodness, faith in the crucified Christ becomes the strength to love to the end, even our enemies. The proof of authentic faith in Christ is self-giving and the spreading of love for our neighbours, especially for those who do not merit it, for the suffering and for the marginalized.

3. By virtue of Baptism and Confirmation we are called to conform ourselves to Christ, who is the Good Samaritan for all who suffer. “We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us – and we ought to lay down our lives for one another” (1 Jn 3:16). When we draw near with tender love to those in need of care, we bring hope and God’s smile to the contradictions of the world. When generous devotion to others becomes the hallmark of our actions, we give way to the Heart of Christ and bask in its warmth, and thus contribute to the coming of God’s Kingdom.

4. To grow in tender love, and a respectful and sensitive charity, we have a sure Christian model to contemplate: Mary, the Mother of Jesus and our Mother, who is always attentive to the voice of God and the needs and troubles of her children. Mary, impelled by God’s mercy which took flesh within her, selflessly hastened from Galilee to Judea to find and help her kinswoman Elizabeth. She interceded with her Son at the wedding feast of Cana when she saw that there was a shortage of wine. She bore in her heart, throughout the pilgrimage of her life, the words of the elderly Simeon who foretold that a sword would pierce her soul, and with persevering strength she stood at the foot of the cross of Jesus. She knows the way, and for this reason she is the Mother of all of the sick and suffering. To her we can turn with confidence and filial devotion, certain that she will help us, support us and not abandon us. She is the Mother of the crucified and risen Christ: she stands beside our crosses and she accompanies us on the journey towards the resurrection and the fullness of life.

5. Saint John, the disciple who stood with Mary beneath the cross, brings us to the sources of faith and charity, to the heart of the God who “is love” (1 Jn 4:8,16). He reminds us that we cannot love God if we do not love our brothers and sisters.

Heb 2:14-18 , Luke 2:22-40

" My eyes have seen the salvation which comes from you .. "
Dear brothers and sisters ,
Attract attention to the figures mentioned in the gospel this time . There Joseph and Mary , Jesus' father and mother ; exist Simeon ; Anna and of Jesus himself as a small child , who do not know anything . His parents , Joseph and Mary took Jesus to the Temple for purification according to the law of Moses . In the law of Moses says that all first-born sons to be offered to God . This means that every firstborn male , either animal or human is God's. And instead, they must be redeemed by presenting a pair of pigeons . Dove is the symbol of chastity and purity and peace .
In this story of faith and humility seem Joseph and Mary . We certainly remember the events surrounding Jesus' birth passage , was presented to them that " their son " was not a " regular kid " , but from God himself . However, they do not feel have special privileges . Mary did not react too much when Simeon said to him : " a sword will pierce your heart " . With the innocence they follow what is commonly done . Also they do not want to be wondering what the child later , but caring , enlarged , and educate " their children " so that " the child grew up, filled with wisdom and the grace of God was upon it " .
The next figure is Simeon . He said as a true gentleman , devout , awaiting the consolation of Israel , and the Holy Spirit and there it . He would not die before seeing Christ Jesus . We can imagine , after waiting for many years , he must be so happy when he was finally able to meet Jesus . Simeon hidupp feel the fullness of existence. With the meet " the salvation " , it is enough for him . Through hymns , Simeon reveals Jesus' true identity . Jesus is the salvation of God , which has been prepared for all mankind , a light to all nations , and the glory of God's people .
Next is Hanna ( Anna ) . He said as a female prophet , is very old and has never left the temple . His life was dedicated to serving God night and day, fasting and praying . He also finally be able to see the baby , the salvation of God .
Reflecting on the characters and story in today's Gospel , I reflect on two things , among others :
1 . Every human being is God's. Because it's basically every human life must be dedicated to God . The Apostle Paul tells us that we are children of God , because it is our lives should reflect the lives of God's children . Let wondered , our struggle setiaphari leads where? Is there a hint in our hearts that when doing a job , in fact we offer it to God . Certainly do not need to like Simeon and Anna , who lives every day in the Temple with prayer and fasting . But let our work leads to a reflection of the glory of God . Joseph and Mary is a concrete example . They live a simple life as husband - wife , bringing up " children " of their Jesus with love and faith.

Dear brothers and sisters, the issue of the next few weeks BLESSING I invites us all to know the moment the Catholic Bible. We will discuss it in several stages. In the first phase we will discuss about: what is Scripture, how many books in the scriptures, and what was the Old Testament.
1. What is Scripture?
Scripture is also called the Bible. The term "Scripture" is more familiar in the Catholic heart. Because God and His Word is holy, then the books containing his word is called the Bible. While the "Bible", derived from Arabic which means the book, more familiar in the hearts of Protestants. Scripture is a collection of books written by human authors under the inspiration of God. These books contain writings about the revelation of God and the plan of salvation of mankind.
2. How many books in the Bible?
According to the Catholic Church, Scripture consists of 72 or 73 books, depending on how we calculate it. The breakdown is 46 books of the Old Testament and the 27 books of the New Testament; total of 73 books. However, since the Council of Trent (1545-1563 years) calculates the Book of Lamentations as part of the Book of the prophet Jeremiah, the number of books to 72 only.
The books of the Scriptures written in several different forms of literature. It is important for us to recognize the shapes of the different literature when reading the Bible, just as important for us to recognize the literary forms that differ in a newspaper. For example, when reading the newspaper we must know if we're reading the editorial section, or news, or advertising.
3. What the Old Testament?
Old Testament, or Hebrew Scriptures, is writing about God's relationship with Israel, "the chosen people". Written between the years 900 BC to 160 BC. All 46 books of the Old Testament can be divided into four sections: 5 Book of the Pentateuch, Historical Books 16, 7 Book of Poetic and Wisdom, and the Prophets 18.
Most of the Old Testament literature is influenced by the neighboring countries of Israel in the Middle East. To tell the stories of their own, the Israelites borrowed culture surrounding nations as well as other forms of literature emulate them. ....DETAILS

Dear Readers of the Cathedral Gazette, parokikatedral medan browsers as well as all churchgoers ,
We have entered the year 2014 AD . Various memories of love and grief in the year 2013 has been left with us . There are many things that have not been completed , but I 'm sure that must have been among the many affairs , plan or program has been able to be resolved well . There are successful , some are failing . But we do not need to be discouraged or hopeless . There is always a chance to improve . Although we still have to remember that the time that has passed will never come back . However, the chance and the opportunity will still exist , as long as we remain hopeful .
Every new year begins and we are invited to open the Church mass to celebrate the Feast of Mary the Mother of God . With the celebration we are aware that throughout the course of time each year in the real Mary, the Mother of God is always with us in prayer . No time passed without the inclusion of prayer . Of course this is in accordance with our prayers to him : Holy Mary, Mother of God , pray for us sinners , now and at the hour of death . Amen .
January 1 is also expressed by the Catholic Church as the World Peace Day . The mission os not peace ever after . Even the peace even if it was has happened is that we need to take care of and keeping sustainable and lasting . So we are pleading to Mary , Mother of God ( Mater Dei ) and also Queen of Peace ( Regina Pacis ) pray that all mankind globally really create peace throughout the world.
On the first Sunday in January , the Catholic Church's liturgy invites us to celebrate the Feast of Presentation of the Lord . In this celebration we remember Jesus in the manger visited  and worshiped by the three wise men are usually called the Three Kings from the East . They brought valuable and meaningful offerings with very high value in the tradition of the time. God is Great and Noble , born in disgrace but still appeared matchless glory . Small star being a mentor and directions for them . Cage the animals and manger into which they prostrate and worship . Small baby , weak and powerless into their purpose and direction of arrival . Do not know that he was in fact God has appeared . But small stars a guide for them that it is a Baby King of Kings .
Brothers and sisters , still many people do not know Jesus the Son of God . Let us be willing to be a star too small to show God to others . Together with the knowledge of God , peace on earth will actually happen . Hopefully this year the Indonesian Nation is a political year , peace is maintained and preserved . Congratulations enters 2014 with all the plans and the will to even be better. Let us keep persevering pleading : " Come , O Prince of Peace " . May the blessing of God be with us all . Amen .

Along with the splendor of the Christmas celebration with a variety of decorative lighting and accessories , pu songs echoed . The songs of Christmas patterned also must be sung at every celebration of Christmas . The singing or carols always evoke a certain atmosphere in the recesses of the heart that sings and listens. One of the Christmas song that never forget to sing the " Peace " . When people sing this song surely sing vigorously . In overall this song is clearly audible human longing for peace . We are also aware bahwasannya , peace is the need of every human being .

Humans , since the time in the past, present and future are always in need of peace . Why not ! Without peace , be it as a shared situation and personal circumstances in heart , real men will lose a lot of power . We want to do anything or go anywhere when there is no peace we would not be comfortable . Even more than that , we also feel threatened salvation of our souls . It is therefore understandable that peace is a basic human needs .
Christmas theme raised by the Indonesian Bishops Conference ( KWI ) with Indonesian Communion of Churches ( PGI ) is " Come , O King of Peace " (Isaiah 9.5 ) . This theme is very relevant and will always be the actual even of all time , precisely because we are always in need of peace . How peaceful it will be apparent when the Prince of Peace that we truly receive His coming . The Prince of Peace , Jesus Christ , our Lord will indeed come .
Peace in the name of Jesus is not a false peace . Peace in the name of Jesus is the true peace that will meet all the souls , minds and hearts . Let us draw the real peace from Him , the Prince of Peace who came to this earth . He came to reconcile us to the Father in Heaven . Furthermore , let us not forget that we are sent to proclaim peace and witnessed his life in peace .
Our longing for the peace , let's bring in our prayers in the presence of the Prince of Peace that He was anointed leaders of our nation with the spirit of peace . May more tegaklah peace in this world and especially in our country and uplift the place where we live and are . 25 DECEMBER 2013 MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR WELCOME 01 JANUARY 2014.
